I had a number of planned surprises in April, the first being the floristry course which I mentioned in my earlier blog post. The second and bigger surprise I had planned was for my mum’s birthday.
My cousin and I decided to join forces and organise a day of surprises for my mum and my aunt. After a few months of secret text and whatsapp messages the day came (Easter Sunday) for our secret mission.
Our first stop was the Waldorf Hotel in central London for afternoon tea. The interior of the Waldorf itself is stunning, you wouldn’t really expect anything less really though. The afternoon tea itself was delicious - we had a selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones, which were all topped off with a glass of sparkling white wine and a variety of teas.
As Mickey Flannigan (a fellow East Londoner) would say there was great ambience, and we were lucky enough to enjoy a lady playing the harp.
Our second stop on the mystery tour was the Shard, and as we are very unlucky we had chosen the only day in about a month when it rained in London; and I mean really rained. As we rounded the corner to the Shard we all looked up and were greeted with the sight of the top of the shard being surrounded by low cloud - not the best conditions for enjoying the views.

Unfortunately the low cloud did not clear enough for us to be able to visit the top of the shard and enjoy the views; but we were able to change the date of our tickets and go back at a later date, so all was not lost and it didn’t put a dampener on an already brilliant day :)
