Thursday Travel Guide - Bath

Summer is upon us and that means so is holiday season, so I thought I would share some places in the UK and abroad I have been to recently to help give you some ideas.

First up its Bath, SW England.

I love a good city break and last November I finally got to visit Bath, which is somewhere I have been wanting to visit for a long time. We only had one night booked so we left early in the morning and drove along the M4 to Bath. We stayed in The Queensberry Hotel, which was only a short walk away from the city centre. The hotel room was stunning and felt huge.

Once we had checked in and dumped our bags in the room we did not waste anytime exploring the city. Our first stop was the Roman Baths, which were amazing. As I was walking along the old roman pavements (which have been preserved beautifully) I just kept thinking to myself its crazy that the Romans once walked along this same road/pavement. If you are heading to Bath, the Roman Baths are a must see!

We then treated ourselves to afternoon tea in the Pump Room Restaurant, which is next to the Roman Baths. The afternoon tea was delicious and reasonably priced I thought, we even had a cheeky glass of champagne.

Our last port of call was the Thermae Bath Spa, which I must say was AMAZING! Once inside the spa you have access to the following with the general admission:

  • Open Air Rooftop Pool - from which you can see over the city. We went up on during the evening (in the winter) and so the pool was all lit up beautiful. The water is beautifully warm, just be prepared for the shock of getting out to get your towel if you go in the winter.
  • Minerva Bath - this is the largest of the thermal baths and consists of a whirlpool and lazy river. This thermal bath is inside but the waters are still beautifully warm. We spent about an hour just floating around the lazy river.
  • Aroma Steam Rooms - As far as I can remember there were 4 steam rooms, which were each infused with a different aromatic essence such as lotus flower or eucalyptus mint. In the centre of the steam rooms is a waterfall shower!

On our second day we decided to explore the sites of the city a bit more. We walked around the Royal Crescent, which is a semi circle of smart houses and hotels. We also went to have a look at the Pulteney Weir as well as the Pulteney Bridge and looked around Bath Abbey.

As it was the end of November they were setting up the Bath Christmas Market, but unfortunately they were opening it the day after we left; but that means we have to go back to beautiful Bath to visit the Christmas Market and maybe have another evening spent floating along the lazy river!
