My cousin Kate and I have made it our mission to try as many of the afternoon teas available in the UK as possible. So last week we ventured to Knightsbridge in London to try the Pret-a-Portea afternoon tea at the Berkeley Hotel.
The Pret-a-Portea afternoon tea at the Berkeley is a themed afternoon tea inspired by the themes and colours of the fashion world. The cakes and pastries are designed to resemble the latest catwalk designs and the menu is changed every 6 months to follow the changing seasons in fashion.
We were treated to the Spring/Summer 2014 menu, which according to the website is inspired by this season's print craze of grids, triangles and concentric circles to name just a few.
The afternoon tea was held in the stunning Caramel Room, which despite its grandeur still offered a very relaxed environment to enjoy some truly delicious food.
Once we had been seated at our table we were offered a choose of tea, coffee or soft drink and were then given a selection of sandwiches, which included smoked salmon, chicken and egg mayonnaise.
Next we were brought a selection of miniature savoury treats - including tuna tartare, crab salad cones, ham and cheese filo pie (which was delicious and tasted like Christmas) and goats' cheese and beetroot mouse.
To finish off we had a selection of cakes and pastries, which included the following:
Christian Louboutin - a chocolate biscuit Pigalle Spike heel with fresh turquoise hue icing and signature red sole.
Victoria Beckham - a graphic geometric cherry and white chocolate mousse shirt.
Karla Colletto - a lemon biscuit swimsuit with cherry red icing and pretty rosette-appliqued neckline.
My favourite cakes were the Simone Rocha, which was a pineapple and coconut Savarin shirt dress with a lime punk spun sugar and the Emilia Wickstead, which was a striped fuchsia pink and orange joconde with tropical creme patissiere blazed with a twirly fruit cone.
Initially we were disappointed that we had only been given one of each of the savoury treats and cakes to try, and so had to split everything in half, but thankfully we were given lots of opportunities to ask for more of our favourites.
Unlike some afternoon teas we were never rushed at any stage and were allowed to just relax and enjoy the food at our own leisure. Before we left we were given a cute little bag to take home, which contained two cakes.
In my opinion the Pret-a-Portea afternoon tea at the Berkeley is one of the best I have had. The food was delicious and the whole experience was very unique. It was so good, Kate and I are already talking about going back for the Autumn/Winter 2014 menu later this year. I would give it 5/5!
