DIY: Party bag ideas

This is a different type of blog post for me, but recently I made some party bags for my friend's surprise 30th birthday and I was very happy with them and so thought I would share my idea with you all. The party bags were simple and quite quick to make (I made mine in afternoon while I was stuck at home with a nasty cold), but also sophisticated and so perfect for an adult birthday party, and the design meant I was able to personalise each bag, which was a lovely touch!

The finished party bag

Here is a list of the equipment you will need:

  • Brown paper bags - I got some brown paper party bags from Hobbycraft
  • Labels
  • String/twine
  • Metallic pens - I choose gold and green
  • Letter stickers
  • Star stickers - or any other stickers you want to add
  • Any presents you want to put in the bags - I choose bubbles, bags of chewy sweets and funky animal pencils

The bags are so simple there are really only 4 steps to making them:

1. The first thing you need to do is right out all the labels and let them dry as sometimes the ink can smudge. I added some star stickers to the labels and made each one different. This was the point I had to restrain myself from sticking millions of stars on each label, I had to keep reminding myself less is more.

2. Next it is time to decorate the paper bags. I decided to personalise each bag with people's initial and then add some more star stickers (why not they had to match the labels right lol), which I put in the top left corner of the bags. I made sure each bag had a different star design on. I am not sure people noticed but I found it fun making them and that is all part of making the bags really.

3. We are almost finished, I told you they were simple to make. Attach the labels to the bags with the string or twine. The bags I choose had little holes at the top which I used to attach the labels, but if you don't have any you can make one using a hole punch. I would suggest attaching the label to the bag in the opposite corner to where you have added the person's initial. That way people can appreciate both elements of the bags. If you wanted to add something else to the bags this is the point to do it, for example you could add some ribbon or something similar.

4. Now it is time to fill the bags with anything you want, you can choose anything, the sky is your limit lol. I decided to add some bubbles, as I always remember party bags from my childhood having a pot of bubbles in. I also added a bag of chewy sweets, as the friend whose party it was loves chewy sweets and I added a funky animal pencil as I thought they were cute.

I hope your guests like these party bags if you decide to make them and you have fun making them.

Happy creating!
