I think I might be addicted to cake. I feel so much better now that its out in the open :)
Over the past few months I have been to quite a few places for tea and cake or actual afternoon tea and so over the next few weeks I will be reviewing them.
First of its Bea's of Bloomsbury. I found this place by accident while searching for places for cake in London and was drawn in by the yummy menu and website. So one Friday myself and my friend Naomi decided to pay them a visit. Despite the name, Bea's of Bloomsbury have 3 cafes in Farringdon, St Pauls and Bloomsbury. We went to the one in Bloomsbury, which is the original cafe and is very warm and welcoming. The cafes are not very big and so they recommend that you book a table in advance, which is what we did.
The afternoon tea itself was lovely, we had a few dietary requirements which they were more than happy to cater for. They made us some yummy vegetarian sandwiches, which included two of my favourite things - red onion chutney and avocado (I am seriously addicted to avocado at the moment), the sandwiches themselves were really fresh.
In terms of the sweet treats we had scones, cupcakes, marshmallows and 3 different types of brownies, which were all delicious. The cupcakes were light and fluffy and it was nice to have marshmallows for a change, which is different to normal afternoon teas.
I would definitely recommend Bea's of Bloomsbury for afternoon tea if your ever in London and have a craving for cake. It offers a very relaxed feel and has a modern twist on the traditional afternoon tea. If your not in the mood for full on afternoon tea though, don't fear, you can also just pop along to grab a cake or brownie to name just a few of the treats they have on offer.
