No this isn't what you might thinking, I am talking about the Emirates Air Line, which goes from North Greenwich to Royal Victoria across the River Thames. I live nearby and see it everyday when I get on the tube but it was only recently that I actually took a trip on it.
We took the DLR to Royal Victoria and then walked the short distance to the Emirate Air Line station. There was no queue at all, which I was slightly surprised at, and so we walked straight onto a capsule. Then it was up and away into the sky. The views were brilliant, not the best views of London I have seen (I still think they are the best from the top of the Shard), but they are still great. It was a nice change to be able to see views of East London and out to the east, a lot of the views you get from the tall building in London are of central and west London. We were able to see Canary Wharf, the Thames Barrier and Greenwich, to name just a few places.
One thing I must note is that the capsules are prone to moving about a bit. We didn't go on a particularly windy day, but our capsule was still moving around a bit from side to side. I personally thought it added to the adventure, but my sister who is scared of heights did not enjoy it so much (although she did still enjoy the trip and would go on the air line again).
Once at the other side we disembarked at North Greenwich and then walked to the tube to carry on our journey. If your going to go on the air line I would recommend you doing it the same way that we did, so Royal Victoria to North Greenwich. You have the O2 at North Greenwich where you can grab some food before jumping on the jubilee line straight into central London.
The cost for a single journey is £4.50 or £3.40 if you have an oyster card.
Happy flying!!
